An easy hour's drive from Glasgow (via the M8/A8 motorway) will bring you to Wemyss Bay Ferry Terminus. Catch the ferry from here to Bute, either by car or on foot - the crossing takes about 30 minutes

If you would like to sample the scenery of Argyll on your journey to the island, why not opt for the other ferry crossing, to the north of the island? Here there is a 5 minute crossing from the tiny village of Colintraive to Bute at Rubodach. If you are driving from Glasgow, allow about 95 minutes for the drive which will take you past the famous Loch Lomond. Click here to find out more about this ferry service
